Coin Programme 2018
 
 

The Central Bank of Malta is launching its Numismatic Coin Programme for 2018 which includes the following products:

A gold and silver numismatic coin issue under the Europa Star Programme, which in 2018 will carry the theme 'Baroque & Rococo'. The Maltese coins will feature the 'Baptism of Christ', a marble sculpture created by Giuseppe Mazzuoli (1641-1725). This massive work of art is found in St John's Co-Cathedral and it is one of the foremost expressions of Baroque in Malta. These coins are expected to be issued in March 2018.

A silver numismatic coin commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Central Bank of Malta. The coin is expected to be issued in April 2018.

A gold numismatic coin commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Central Bank of Malta. This will be a special edition coin which will be limited to only 50 pieces. The coin is expected to be issued in April 2018.

A silver numismatic coin commemorating Valletta's assumption of title of European Capital of Culture 2018. This coin is expected to be issued in May 2018.

A euro coin set dated 2018 consisting of the eight Maltese euro circulation coins together with a €2 commemorative coin, which is the third in a series of seven coins featuring Maltese prehistoric structures that are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This set is expected to be issued in June 2018.

A €2 commemorative coin featuring the Mnajdra temples. This will be the third in a series of seven coins featuring Maltese prehistoric structures that are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The coin will be issued in rolls of 25 coins each as well as individually in coin cards. This coin is expected to be issued in July 2018.

A specially designed blister-pack commemorating Valletta's title of European Capital of Culture 2018. This set, which complements those issued in 2016 and 2017, contains the eight Maltese euro circulation coins. This special edition set will be limited to just 2,000 and is expected to be issued in October 2018.

A €2 commemorative coin featuring the winning design of a competition that will be open to secondary school students, the theme for 2018 being 'Cultural Heritage'. The coin will be issued in rolls of 25 coins each as well as individually in coin cards. This coin is expected to be issued in November 2018.
